I love XP-like puppy, runing from live Cd with USB flash for pupsave. Thanks for a great Puppy!
Minor issue, when I try to configure CUPS for my HP Deskjet 832C, there is NO option for parallel printer, but there IS that option on basic Puppy 431. Serial and USB are there, but not parallel.
Any idea why?
Thanks again.

Have installed xp like puppy but the pmount won't mount usb flash drive or my hard drives.... install ...grub freezes up as well.
Had no probs before with puppy 4.3.1.
wanted to put this version on hard drive for my mother who is used to XP.
Ans: You could be having a pup_save mix-up. Try using psubdir=xxxx for every Grub entry that you have, and move every pup_save into its proper xxxx (folder). See this for frugal install.

hi Adi
Thank you for advice. Could you please point me to some direction what Linux os you are using? Which one has the windows menu? I can make another distro (linux), know how to do, but i haven't got time. We have each mont over 40 ton computers.
I am still waiting for dell to reply but they want from me contract for support i cannot pay that amount, costs a fortune.
Thank you again.
Regards.

Linux is friendly enough both on old or new computers. Puppy is very good to start a computer immediately, After that a client can buy what commercial os likes for a pc (there are plenty of variants) but he or she can see that the machine is good. You can change the wallpaper for branding with your own image. It's easy. I buy only recycled computers for years. They can work with puppy too (and it's windows-like menu except some puplets).

hi
thanks for reply,i just know the battle between manufacturers and microsoft.
we currently recycle redundant it equipment because some companies have budget from government. they change computers each year especially end of year just to get the same budget each year. also environmental health about recycling and minimize waste because of carbon emission.
i tried to contact several companies but all want to make money from software. at the moment we use ubuntu and opensuse. but i like puppy because of the size and this small distro can make even the oldest computer fast.
i was looking for some xp look-alike but there are many and i dont know the legal one because i dont want to fall out with law.
i can install a server for multiple linux os but at the moment i dont know the right option.
mainly our hardware have windows license but branded one. and we cannot install through oem. there are few ways, one is to install from branded - this is non economical, or use new license - same, non economical, or use linux.
but with linux it's a bit hard to sell because people dont understand the functionality. i was looking for some friendly options but am still hanging.
i dont know where this world go but i believe we all are responsible for the weather changes. we don't listen to nature. and i believe this will knock us down somewhere.
thank you again for reading.
regards

Gigi, 404 means "not found", probably because the author removed the files from the server.
The theme used in XP-like is already safe to use. Our friends from Hungary must be aware of your issues.

hi is it legal to use xp look themes?
we have a recycling center and struggling because by data protection we have to format the hard drives but we could not install windows even if we have license on the machine. i phoned up microsoft, they told me that if i buy a minimum of 5 oem through their suppliers then i become a volume license user. but this is just for oem. for branded i have to contact the manufacturer. but again the manufacturer wont release software just for free. some of them want to be on support contract from the sale of recovery cds.
i was thinking of linux at the moment. puppy looks quick to install and of course works on old machines. it is too hard to find the right way because the government is pushing everyone about environmental problem and on another side the software monopoly and manufactures want too much money.
did anyone know the right answer?
i see some xp themes for linux but some of links are 404 probably a copyright issue.
who knows?
thanks for reading
best regards

Hello, i am new to puppy linux.
I have installed xp-based puppy linux on my usb. It is looking good. My question is how to restart icewm from command line instead of (start menu --> window manager-->restart icewm) using the mouse.
I tried icewm --replace &, but it closed all open windows.
Answer: See this.

Thank you for quick reply.
I tried the above command for disabling mouse right click menu:
xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2"
but no success. I have read the link you have sent, no success.
what exactly i need is
1)Restrict users to delete desktop icons.
2)Restrict users to edit desktop icons (so he can change command name ,and command).
3)If it possible,if user is issued mouse-right click,he should
not get any menu (OR) he should get customised menu.
4)In which file we have to modify to get custom menu (for mouse right click)?

Thank you for the commments !
For the keyboard issue:
delete the file : /etc/keymap (contains hu.keymap) and restart puppy.
Than you will be asked for keyboard. Afterward start menu-- > settings -->mouse/keyboard wizard -->advanced xorg keyboard configuration -->layouts--> gb united kingdom and click to yes, activate new settings.
disabling the right-click:
xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2"
Ahoi!

Keyboard layout is in hungarian, even tho the locale is set to usa. Attempts to change the keyboard results in an error message, and the layout remains hungarian.
