Agreed, 4.3.1 great work, snappy screen nav.

Came across something though, with WINE and maybe I should not use it. Installed Wine Pet and lost ~120M.
Did not seem to notice this under older distros.

Is there a lighter / recommended Wine ?

Thx

Raffy, any thoughts on memory holes, garbage collection and zombies, and bringing back the system to original state memory wise. Like a quick reset.

Situation, I have had Gxine gag from defunct dead Internet streams, maybe DVD player read errors.

Leaving screen artifacts and orphaned processes. I go and wack / kill the offending procs, and the memory does not go back to clean boot.

This sometimes happens with VLC, Audaciocious, tho sometimes limited with artifacts Ghosts of where the image location where running apps were.

To be sure, I have also come across Video Player/ Flash Player buffering of conyent stream, that eventually uses a chunk of RAM that is lost and not reusable.

Mostly using LiveCD, so say 246M goes to 150M, and locking up.

Sometimes, restarting JWM or whatever WM clears the Ghosts, yet the Process Managers show them "locking a chunk of memory or CPU cycles ?"

Lastly, I have found that this happens sometimes with SeaMonkey multiple windows. possibly site complexity - demands. I then go into ProcMan and kill the obvious Seamonkey zombies and then I can restart SM w/o the profile in use etc...

BTW I have noticed that on some DVDS, I had to go back to Win$ and Win$ VLC, if I had DVD playing problems under Puppy. From what I can tell, it may be a read error glitch between chapters, track seek or buffering issue ?

As always, I am impressed with your and all the Pup community work and TeamWork.

Nice one, I have tried and have two questions.
1. After full installation, I can't find ulmt_421.sfs anywhere. Do I need to do a frugal instead?
2. I tried to change the locale(LANG=en_US), and check with the "locale". There is still a "LC-CTYPE-js_JP.UTF-8" which didn't chnage so. This make the menu text ad message as Japanese in Wine application. How can I solved this.
Thanks

First I checked my copy of TOP-express.ISO, and indeed the user has to copy an expr_421.sfs to the hard drive.

So in your case, it must be something like unlim_421.sfs, which you have to copy where you keep your pup_save.2fs (save file). Reboot and its contents should already be added to your menu.

An example dialog for loading sfs is shown in this post.

Raffy, I have the TOP-unlimited-4.2.1.iso and it boots to the base version which is stripped down w/ Dillo browser etc.

In order, to use the other components, it wants me to either copy over, rename or use a different sfs (The unlimited one) file ?

Would you be so kind as to let me know how to do this...

I was expecting it to behave like teenpup 2009 live CD wise.

Thx.

Yes, get the TOP-unlimited-4.2.1.iso

To Mr. Cipherfx

Please transfer them from Unlimited and remaster it.
It's not so difficult.

Hello all,

Now I have released TOP Linux 4.2.1 SP1.1.
I have fixed dialup connection problem reported by Mr. Aliencide.
But enabling SMP support is difficult and not yet, sorry.

Cipherfx on October 3, 2009 (3:24AM)

@Bizuayeu

Thanks for the head up, but I'm referring to TOP (100.1 MB) version, I like to use the CD-I (210MB) because of its size (Portability).

If possible include WINE and FIREFOX, that would be great... also NTFS Support.

WINE is important to run such disgnostic like Sisoft Sandra and "Hardware IDs"

Also if you can delete from the menu those module that is only available on the TOP Unlimited or TOP Express.

This linux is the best so far I've seen, Thanks, Keep it up...

Bizuayeu on September 30, 2009 (4:38PM)

To Mr. Cipherfx

TOP Unlimited has WINE already.
Please check.

Cipherfx on September 30, 2009 (2:40AM)

I hope on new version you could include Wine on TOP Linux, just the Wine, I don't think it will bloat that much and also NTFS support if not yet included...

Thanks... Learning to Love Linux....

Bizuayeu on September 29, 2009 (10:00PM)

Thanks Mr. Aliencide!
I start to fix it with SMP support.

Aliencide on September 26, 2009 (4:05PM)

I have problems with connecting to internet with this distribution. A kernel modules seems to be stripped and pupdial doesn't load them.
