Gray describes the new NOP:

This is a 100Mb remaster of Quirky 1.2 in the tradition of previous NOPs.

Nearly Office Pups are so called because office apps have been removed ready for you to tack on an SFS file of your favourite office suite (recommend Open Office).

Replaced JWM/ROX with XFCE 4.6.2 / Thunar
Replaced SeaMonkey browser suite with Firefox 3.6.6 / Sylpheed
Removed Abiword, Gnumeric, Homebank, Ayytm, Geany
Added Transmission
Added Pwidgets 2.27
Removed Nvidia proprietary driver - if you have an Nv card you would probably want to add the full Nvidia driver anyway!

Note that this is not an upgrade for previous NOP - it will need a fresh savefile.
.

Nov 28, 2009 - BoxPup 4.3.1 is also available. Look for it also in the NOP download folder. Read more from the Forum.

Oct 25, 2009 - NOP, the excellent Puppy Linux series by Forum member Gray, has a 4.3.1 version! Get it from here, now version r1. (user=puppy password=linux).

NOP 4.3.1

Gray describes NOP 4.3.1:

"Nearly Office Pup is a puplet with office apps removed and using the XFCE desktop. The idea is that the puplet is run from frugal install or USB stick and an appropriate SFS file of your favourite office apps is used. Usually this would be OpenOffice, but could be Goffice (Abiword & Gnumeric) or even Koffice.

For Goffice (Abiword & Gnumeric) try the goffice-43.sfs file at the above site.

NOP 431 is based on Puppy 4.3.1 but with the Xfce / Thunar desktop replacing JWM / Rox, and of course Abiword & Gnumeric, Homebank, notecase removed. Opera 10 replaces Seamonkey as the web browser.

Pwidgets 2.5 is included but not active by default."

For feedback, visit the Forum.

NOTE: Do not confuse this with NOP 4.1.3 ! NOP 413 was Woof-built from 4.2.1 packages. It is in the same repository (user=puppy password=linux) as 4.3.1.

Caution in the use of SFS: you have to convert it first to sfs4 (check the menu for the sfs converter). See the example use of sfs4 here.

Want to blow the doors off the competition? Build a Remmina.pet for XFCE. Then provide a retro version also.

Hi
I don't understand the r1_to_r2.delta thing in the NOP download folder. Should I download the 413 r1 iso first, then the 431 delta file? And how am I supposed to create a 431 iso from those two files?

Menu - Utility - Xdelta file difference manager. Just drag and drop!

Very likely, but if you want more speed, get the versions with IceWM or JWM, like XP-like or Puppies.

if i use the NOP, and i install open office 3.1.1.
can that run fine and good in PIII 550MHz 256 RAM?

raffy on November 24, 2009 (5:06PM)

Pentium II will be fine, the more memory (RAM) the better. It will be very fast in 256 MB RAM (but still run with only 64 MB RAM). For simplest use, boot with CD/DVD but copy pup-431.sfs to hard disk (to make it run faster).

Found this to be one of the best, very intuitive GUI with XFCE even better with Compiz Fusion for those that like a animated desktop, extremely fast with ease of operation, love it, it can only get better

Excellent. The very best live usb for someone who just wants to have a full office suite wherever they go. I'm using NOP + OO.o to help keep the English courses I instruct organized.

I can't get to like the default JWM / Rox combo on Puppy. NOP is something almost tailor made for me.

Thank you!

Really nice and fast. Simple and beautiful.
