I had the same problem with the key board....until i realized I had to run the keyboard setup and switch to US qwerty layout...Find the keyboard setup wizard in the main menu "setup" mouse/keyboard wizard.

The keyboard issue occured because I accidently forgot to delete the customized keymap (which was set to my german keyboard layout) in /etc before I created the first ISO. Sorry for that. This issue was fixed in Beta1 (among with lots of other bugs like the broken links for wbar), and I added a few extra tools I made.
If all runs well, I'll be able to upload the next version of K-9 in a couple of weeks. Stay tuned!
